Vintage Rumtopf Jar Rumpot - Post-war #825-32, Made in West Germany c.1960s-1980s Lesson: Simply put, a Rumtopf is a clay jar that gets filled with fruit, (sugar?) and then rum. The whole mass sits for 4-6 weeks, and then you can enjoy the augmented fruits on your puddings, ice cream or just straight out of a dish. Rumtopf is a delicious way to preserve fresh fruit. Traditionally, Rumtopf was made at harvest time, to be enjoyed during the holidays. But you can go ahead and start a Rumtopf in May with fresh Strawberries then keep adding more fruits as they ripen. Thanks to the abundance of fresh fruits in our grocery stores, it is never really too late (or too early) to start a Rumtopf. That way, even on the dreariest days of Winter, there is a bit of sunshine in your dessert. Just ensure your fruit is RIPE! 17.75cm rim diameter 16.5cm base diameter 27cm tall without lid 32cm tall with lid 2.65kg Some cracking but no chips.
